What is the jolly pirate fish all about?

It's the symbol for people who believe in or worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Pastafarians, as they are sometimes known. They call themselves this to mock people who believe in God. They believe that there is as much chance of a monster made out of pasta flying through the sky as there is a God being up there. The idea came about as a reaction to the Kansas Education Boards decision to ban the teaching of evolution, and specifically, intelligent design in biology lessons.

The Jolly Pirate Fish is their version of the Icthys, the Christian fish symbol. Basically, it's a parody of Christianity.

My explanation is probably a bit vague, but there's a whole forum on this tongue - in - cheek religion if you need to know more.

And the Wikipedia page on the Flying Spaghetti Monster will probably help make things a little clearer.
